3rd Grade 5th period
What's happening in class?
3rd grade students will demonstrate, in their art, the ideas of foreground, middle ground, and back ground. Students will use five landscape artists as well as Asian artwork as visual references when drawing and painting their own landscapes. Students will evaluate work by identifying the four layers: the horizon-line, foreground, middle ground, and background within the work of others.
3rd grade students will dye pillowcases while applying the ancient art of Batik. Students will use various principles of design to create a horizon line. Students will evaluate work through an individual critique as a tool in furthering their understanding.
3rd grade students will layer construction paper on top of one another to further their understanding of space within a landscape. In the foreground, middle ground, and back ground, students will create objects such as: bushes, a house, animals, trees, stars, or etc; 3RD graders will change the size or scale of these objects to show an understanding of depth within space. Students will present artwork by comparing a written description of their landscape to the actual landscape.
